In the movie ET, the alien’s spaceship crashes on earth and, finding himself in a scary place, he tries to hide in a house full of humans. Little Eliot finds him and, when he can’t get ET to come out of his hiding place, he finally comes up with the great idea to use a trail of Reese’s Pieces to entice him out. And it works.

There’s a lesson here. How many times has the Course called us “aliens”? “[Y]our Self remains an alien to the part of you which thinks that it is real.” (Lesson 160, p1) “Still do you feel an alien here.” (Lesson 182, p1) “Yet there is a Child in you Who seeks His Father’s house and knows that He is alien here.” (Lesson 182, p 4) “You are as much an alien here as He [Christ].” (Lesson 182, p10) “You who bear the light in you are alien here as well.” (Lesson188, p1)

And, just like ET, we hide and look for safety in dark corners, but the Course has laid out a trail of sweetness for us to follow to the light. “Can you imagine what it means to have no cares, no worries, no anxieties, but merely to be perfectly calm and quiet all the time?” CE, C15, S1, P1, L1. “[F]eel the Holy Spirit watching over you in love and perfect confidence in what He sees. (CE, C20, SV, P8, L1) “[F]eel the vast radiation range of your own inner illumination…” (CE, C2, SVIII, P4, L3) “[F]eel a deep peace.” (Lesson 47, P7) “[F]eel safety surrounding you.” (Lesson 68, P8) “[F]eel a deep sense of joy.” (Lesson 74, P6) “[F]eel the strength in you.” (Lesson 91, P4) “[F]eel the truth in you.” (Lesson 94, P3) “[F]eel the joy of life.” (Lesson 157, P1) “[F]eel a touch of Heaven.” (Lesson 157, P3)

Much better than chocolate.
