A few years ago, news reports told the story of a family who had planned a fun afternoon visiting a large corn maze. But when darkness began to creep over the field, they realized they were lost and didn’t know where to turn. By an hour after closing time, the night sky was pitch black, mosquitoes were eating them alive, and they panicked.

From the dark of the cornfield they called 911. “We thought this would be fun,” they cried. “Instead, it’s a nightmare!” But they needn’t have worried. A canine unit was quickly dispatched and they were told to yell out particular instructions so the specially trained search and rescue dog could find them. All they had to yell was, “Hello, K-9!“ But, as it turned out, one time didn’t do the trick. Over and over they had to yell, “Hello, K-9!“

Eventually, they were found – about 25 feet from the entrance.

How many times do we find ourselves lost or at a crossroads in the maze of our personal and professional lives and don’t realize we don’t have to stay lost 25 feet from freedom while mosquitos are eating us alive? How many times have we forgotten we have our own special K-9 unit ready and waiting to lead us out? There’s even a special 911 number to call:1(HOL)YSP-IRIT. “The Holy Spirit still guides you through the infinitely small and senseless maze you still perceive…” (CE, C26, S5, P4, L1.)

And, we are told, “Never forget that the Holy Spirit does not depend on your words. He understands the requests of your heart and answers them.” (CE, M, 29, P6, L2.)

But we do have to make the call. Try it. You’ll be a-mazed at the result.
