Every movement has an anthem, doesn’t it? You know, a song that stirs the heart, emboldens the body, strengthens resolve, and furthers the mission? I’ve heard a lot of “special” songs connected with different religions, alternative spiritual practices, and various metaphysical movements. And some treat these songs like anthems. But I haven’t yet heard a special one that “just fits” A Course in Miracles. So I thought I’d get the ball rolling by suggesting one.

Here’s the focus:
Lesson 281: “I can be hurt by nothing but my thoughts.”
Lesson 271: “Each day, each hour, every instant, I am choosing what I want to look upon, the sounds I want to hear, the witnesses to what I want to be the truth for me.” Text: “Every mind must project or extend because that is how it lives…” (CE, C7, S7, P1, L11)

Text: “The truth is that you are responsible for what you think…What you do comes from what you think…You must change your mind, not your behavior, and this is a matter of will.” (CE, C2, S9, P3, L5, P4, L5)

The bottom line: how we choose to see things creates our own heaven or hell. So whatever anthem we choose needs to further the mission of getting us into Heaven, right? Whatever anthem we choose needs to keep us on track and strengthen our resolve. (And a little booty shaking is ok, too.) That’s why, even though I haven’t heard that Taylor Swift follows ACIM, I’m nominating her song “Shake It Off” as a great anthem for the miracle minded:

“Players gonna play…
And the haters gonna hate…
Baby, I’m just gonna shake…
shake it off…

Heartbreakers gonna break…
And the fakers gonna fake…
Baby, I’m just gonna shake…
shake it off…

Yep, just shake it off!
